Xe M. Sánchez – Translations From the Asturian and  Four Photographs

Peles Oreyes

La guapura
éntramos nel cerebru
pelos güeyos,
pero tamién
peles oreyes.

Güei alcordeme
d’un miruellu
de Sobrefoz.
Canciaba al atapecer,
mentres el cielu
pintaba un cuadru
que camudaba
cada segundu.

Apiellaba, quiciabes,
a la so parexa.
Canciaba l’himnu
de la primavera.

Through The Ears

beauty
enter our brain
through our eyes,
but also
through our ears.

today I remembered
a blackbird from Sobrefoz.
He was singing at dawn,
while the sky
painted a picture
which changed
each second.

he was calling, perhaps,
his partner.
He was singing
the anthem of the spring.

La Mio Farmacia

De xemes en cuandu,
cuandu’l vampiru
de la soledá
nagua por dame
nel mio cuartu
un taragañu nel piscuezu,
namái m’asela
una pastiella de belleza.

Ero un home afortunáu.
Allugáu a venti metros
de la puerte
de la casa au vivo,
en Llanes,
alcuéntrase’l Paséu San Antón
pel que caleyo
sintiendo’l nordés
nel focicu
hasta aportar
a la sablera de Puertu Chicu.

Ero un home afortunáu.
Nun tengo lloñe
la mio farmacia.

My Pharmacy

Sometimes,
when the vampire
of the solitude
wants to bite my neck
in my room,
only can reassure me
a pill of beauty.

I am a lucky man.
Located twenty meters far
from the door
of the house where I live,
in Llanes,
is the Paséu San Antón
where I walk
feeling the Northeast wind
in my face
until I reach Puertu Chicu Beach.

I am a lucky man.
I do not have far
my pharmacy.

Efímeru

apaeció d’esmenu
l’Arcu la Vieya.

yera un poema efímeru,
comu los homes.

ye una triba d’arte
qu’enxamás alcontrarás
nun muséu,
porque ta fechu
polos dioses.

Ephemeral

the rainbow
appeared all of a sudden.

it was an ephemeral poem,
as the men.

it is a kind of art
which you never will find
in a museum,
because it is manufactured
by the gods.

GUAPURA

la guapura
ye comu la señaldá.
naide puede definila
pero toos la reconocen.

la guapura
ta condergada,
comu la señaldá,
a esmucise sele
en silenciu.

la guapura
ye un poema
ensin escribir,
comu la señaldá.

BEAUTY

beauty
is as the melancholy.
nobody can define it,
but everybody
can recognize it.

beauty
is condamned,
as the melancholy,
to disappear gently,
in silence.

beauty
is an unwritten poem,
as the melancholy.
